ASEPOP Velventou: Dynamic Growth in New Markets with €30 Million Investment

The Agricultural Cooperative for the Processing and Sale of Fruit and Vegetable Products of Velventou (ASEPOP Velventou) announced a significant investment strategy amounting to €30 million, aiming to double its turnover by 2030 through expansion into international markets, showcasing the quality superiority of Kozani peaches, and leveraging the cooperative model’s benefits for producers and consumers. This announcement was made during a press event held on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, in Paris.

The event was hosted at Osmossi – Maison Mavrommatis, Paris, France, as part of the three-year EU co-funded “Fruit Up!” program, which seeks to promote ASEPOP Velventou’s fresh fruit in both Greek and French markets.

Key Points of the Investment Plan:

  • €12.3 million (2024-2027) for the construction of a new kiwi packaging facility, collective producer improvement plans, automation of existing facilities, and annual operational programs.

  • €17 million (2027-2030) for establishing a model processing unit to further advance the cooperative.

Goals of the Investment Plan:

  • Doubling turnover to €30 million by 2030 from the current €15 million.

  • Reinforcing the cooperative model to ensure:

    • Higher-quality and more competitive Greek agricultural products on the international stage.

    • Increased incomes for Greek farmers through better negotiations with clients and suppliers.

    • Reduction of the black economy, improving state revenues, competitiveness, and product quality.

    • Retention of population in rural areas, supporting villages and small towns.

ASEPOP Velventou’s Impact: With core products including peaches and nectarines, ASEPOP Velventou is one of Greece’s largest agricultural cooperatives and a key driver of economic growth in Velvento, Kozani, and the wider Greek economy. The cooperative comprises around 400 active producer members who currently cultivate approximately 6,500 hectares. ASEPOP Velventou’s reputation extends beyond Greece, thanks to its high-quality products and modern farming practices.

Additional Highlights:

  • Exports to over 15 countries.

  • Among the first in Greece to implement Integrated Management Systems, reducing pesticide use and adopting biological pest control systems.

  • Ensures scientifically recommended farming techniques for its members, securing competitive raw material prices and international market access.

  • Participates in international trade fairs and operates its own store in the central Athens wholesale market, supplying products nationwide and especially to tourist areas.

  • Engages in promotional programs abroad, leveraging co-funded initiatives to open new markets for Kozani farmers.
